This is a Russian variety of kale that produces frilled leaves and is obviously cold hardy. Very productive, each plant can produce for well over a year, in between attacks from the white cabbage moth and its caterpillars.

When to Plant
Zone 1: September - April
Zone 2: August - May
Zone 3: March - July

Position: Full sun but will benefit from shading in warm weather.

Soil: Ensure your soil is nutrient rich so prepare it with fresh manure and compost a fortnight before planting. Integrate good levels of organic matter to increase its water holding ability.

Soil pH Level: 6.5 - 7

How to Plant: Soak seeds in water overnight prior to planting and then sow directly into your patch at a depth of about 1cm. Thin out once they have germinated, which should take 7-10 days.

Spacing: 30-40cm

Depth: 0.5-1cm

What to plant in: Pot / Wall Garden / Ground

Companion Plants: Herbs, Onions

Approximate no. of seeds: 50-60

Note: Seeds are sourced locally and in small batches to ensure they remain at their maximum viability for germination. Seeds viable for 5+ years when stored correctly in a cool, dry, dark place.
